| Situated at the foot of the Chartrain
and Rouchain dams, in a tree-covered park (from where numerous walking
and hiking trails depart), this inn dates from 1953. A faithful
clientele has built up ever since, guests who never tire of the
delicious local fare of escargots, frogs legs, deep-fried sprat
and trout.
When they took over the establishment in 2003, Jean-Pierre Cherpin
and Olivia Reig decided to perpetuate this traditional menu, but
have also opened it up with notes of exoticism. This choice comes
as no surprise when you learn that Jean Pierre Cherpin, a graduate
of the St Chamond Hostelery School and who finished his training
at the celebrated Trois Gros restaurant, then set his cap toward
the Caribbean before coming back to France via the best-reputed
establishments on the Swiss Rivera.
The voyage of discovery offered by the restaurant has seduced
many the fan from nearby Roanne or from Lyon. Clients who have become
fans of the excellent Charolais filet with hibiscus flowers or indeed
the Lavor risotto (local cheese from the Auvergne region).
Olivia Reig, thanks to her background in the tourist industry,
organises themed weekend breaks which highlight the exceptional
surrounding countryside.
